| O'Brien County Bell; Primghar, O'Brien County, Iowa Thursday March 14, 1912 Vol 27 No 30 p1 col 1 Dewitt C. Chapman was born in Medina county, Ohio, Feb. 12, 1826. Died at Deer Creek, Minn., March 8, 1912, aged 86 years and 25 days. He was married at Winslow, Ill., Jan. 1, 1851, to Elizabeth Kennedy. Nine children were born to them, six of whom are still living. He moved with the family to O'Brien County, Iowa, in June, 1871, where he has since resided. He was a volunteer in Company I, 2nd Iowa Calvary; enlisted Feb. 26, 1864, and was discharged Sept. 19, 1865. He was a devoted husband and loving father. His wife, Elizabeth Chapman, died May 21, 1904. Six sons survive him, five of whom were present at the funeral. Those present were: E.E. Chapman, of Hewitt, Minn.; A.W., of Deer Creek, Minn.; J.C. of Taber, Alberta, Canada; Geo., of Primghar; R.E. of Manchester. E.W., of Lodgepole, S.D., was unable to attend. C.C.
